Lesson Plan: "Between Fracture and Rehabilitation" – Ada and Coping with Loss of Faith

Based onthe film "I Believed" | Lesson No. 1

 

Lesson Abstract

The lesson examines the personal fracture experienced by Ada, the film's protagonist, and the manner in which she builds a new life following the traumatic experience. Through analyzing her testimony, we will discuss concepts of loss of faith, identity, and rehabilitation.

Lesson Objectives

Content Objectives

  • Familiarity with the depth of the trauma Ada undergoes following the events of October 7th.

  • In-depth understanding of the concept "loss of faith" and its meaning in personal and social contexts.

  • Analyzing the transition from a rich communal life to the need to create a new personal space.

  • Deciphering filmed testimony (Media Literacy) and emotional analysis.

  • Reflective writing on internal change.

  • Developing critical thinking regarding different methods of rehabilitation.

Aids and Materials

  • Projection equipment and sound system.

  • Selected testimony clips of Ada from the film "I Believed".

  • Emotion cards and key concepts (for printing/projection): Fracture, Rehabilitation, Faith/Trust, Community.

  • Student analysis question sheet.

Lesson Procedure

Phase A: Opening – The Home That Was

  • Screening: A clip from the film where Ada describes life in the Kibbutz before October 7th.

  • Class Discussion: What are the components that create a sense of "home"?

  • Guiding Question: How can a sharp and extreme change in one's living environment affect personal identity?

Phase B: The Breaking Point

  • Screening: A testimony clip where Ada speaks about the loss of innocence and the loss of faith in coexistence.

  • Individual/Pair Activity: Students will be asked to identify and write down sentences from the testimony that describe significant internal change.

  • Discussion: Is "loss of faith" a continuous process or a specific point in time?

Phase C: Rebuilding Life

  • Screening: The section where Ada speaks about moving to a new apartment and creating a different routine.

  • Group Task: Which daily actions create a sense of stability after trauma? (Compiling a shared list).

  • Discussion: The significance of Ada's choice not to return to the Kibbutz – giving up or a new beginning?

Phase D: Conclusion – Cautious Hope

  • Quote Analysis: "That it ends on an optimistic note, that maybe it will be good."

  • Reflection Question: Is hope an active choice or an emotion that arises on its own?

  • Sharing: A voluntary sharing round of thoughts raised by the students.

Summary / Assessment Assignment

Personal Writing: Describe a significant change that occurred to you or in your close environment. Explain how the change affected you and how one can create stability in life following it.
